Siren and soulmate to the King of Night, Callypso Lillis survived the clutches of Karnon, the mad king, and his twisted prison. But the nightmare isn’t over. Callie wears the physical reminders of her time as a captive, and mounting evidence suggests the Thief of Souls is still out there.
When a fae celebration thrusts Callie and her mate, Desmond Flynn, into the Kingdom of Flora, they take their investigation with them. But under the bright lights and striking blooms of the realm, they find there are more immediate issues to deal with. No place is more uniquely savage than the great fae halls, and no amount of bargains can save Callie from royal intrigues.
Fairies play dangerous games. Some want love, some want vengeance, some want flesh, and some want things too unspeakable to utter. One thing is for sure: no one is who they appear to be. Not even Des, who only grows more enigmatic with every passing secret.
But the Kingdom of Flora has its own secrets, from bleeding trees to branded slaves and missing guards. Something is stirring in the land of all that grows, and if Callie isn’t careful, it will claim everything and everyone she loves—and her along with it.
Callie and Des are taking on the realms!
As Callie comes to grip with her new changes, Des is trying to get her to see herself through his eyes. She is stunning. More fae then human now. The King of the Night takes Callie on a tour of his lands, with a quick stop at his home island and a secret.
Invitations were sent out to the realms for a party. Des’ right-hand fae, Malaki is beseeching him to go. It will look bad if he doesn’t. Des is weary, the Thief of Souls is still on the loose. He could come after Callie again and that’s not what Des wants. An act of good faith he goes and presents Callie and her siren to the court of Queen of Flora, Mara, and the Green Man. It’s there that alliances are made and other’s are broken. People are accused and people are freed. It is where a Queen steps up to her place. It is also where the Thief of Souls is outed. Blood is shed, a life is sacrificed, a life is gained.
But at what price to Des and Callie? To the Fae? To the realms?
Oh, so many answers in this book!! You get a better look at the fae realm and all that is going on in it. The politics of the realm. Each one is so different, honestly, I wish we could visit them all! The story keeps you hooked and moves at a fast pace to reach the climax. The relationship between Des and Callie is growing, they are trusting each other more and more. The finale is just amazing because I’m not sure how Callie will respond when she learns of her future!!
In case you are curious I did pick up book 2.5 and book 3 of the series. Book 2.5 is The Emperor of the Evening Star and book 3 is Dark Harmony and then I’m done with the series. I’m not ready to be done!
