The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang

36199084A heartwarming and refreshing debut novel that proves one thing: there’s not enough data in the world to predict what will make your heart tick.

Stella Lane thinks math is the only thing that unites the universe. She comes up with algorithms to predict customer purchases — a job that has given her more money than she knows what to do with, and way less experience in the dating department than the average thirty-year-old.

It doesn’t help that Stella has Asperger’s and French kissing reminds her of a shark getting its teeth cleaned by pilot fish. Her conclusion: she needs lots of practice — with a professional. Which is why she hires escort Michael Phan. The Vietnamese and Swedish stunner can’t afford to turn down Stella’s offer, and agrees to help her check off all the boxes on her lesson plan — from foreplay to more-than-missionary position…

Before long, Stella not only learns to appreciate his kisses, but to crave all the other things he’s making her feel. Soon, their no-nonsense partnership starts making a strange kind of sense. And the pattern that emerges will convince Stella that love is the best kind of logic…

This is book gives you a peek into the life of an autistic person. How things affect them and how they can potentially react. I was not prepared to fall in love with the characters and cheer for them during their struggles. Everyone is struggling with something. Everyone needs to look past that and succeed in life.

Stella is a math guru, she loves numbers and marketing. She is amazing at her job. She is not however amazing with people. Her mom wants Stella to marry and have babies. Because that’s what all mom’s ultimately want right? But Stella feels broken. The few times she was intimate, she didn’t like it – Stella it’s NOT you! A co-worker makes a suggestion and she goes with it. Michael drops into her life and turns it all around. She is unaware of how her life is changing until it all crumbles. Can this thing between Stella and Michael work out? Can she be enough for him?

Michael hates that he is an escort, but he needs the money to help his mom. So here he is selling his image to lonely women. Then he is hired by Stella. A beauty. Yes, she is awkward, but who isn’t. When she reveals what she needs/wants from him, can he do it? Can he help her be sexy and loving towards another man? Or will he fall flat on his face? The money she is offering is good, so he takes the chance. Slowly they work together, trying to get Stella comfortable with being touched sexually. It’s only when Michael meets her parents that the plan goes into a tailspin and he bails out. Leaving Stella to take care of herself. He’s not good enough for her. He has tainted genes. She’d be better off without him. Would she? Does he want this? He doesn’t know.

Will Stella and Michael have a happily ever after? Or are they doomed to walk the Earth alone?

I will say the characters are amazing. All of them, even the secondary characters. I love Me and Quan. I hated Philip – what a dick! This would have been a 5 star for me, had it not been insta-love between Michael and Stella. I was hoping they would grow to that, after a few encounters. The plot kept the book interesting and moving forward.

Even with the insta-love, it’s a good book. You can see Stella struggle and then open up. Michael has his own demons to slay. Two flawed people making a go at it. It has to be worth it right?

The Pact by Karina Halle

23844390It all started with a pinky swear…

Linden McGregor is tall, rugged, and gunslinger handsome; a helicopter pilot with a Scottish brogue and charm to spare. He’s also one of Stephanie Robson’s best friends and has fit into that box for as long as she’s known him.

But some relationships can’t be boxed, can’t be classified, can’t be tamed.

Back in their mid-twenties and tired of the competitive hit-or-miss dating scene of San Francisco, Steph and Linden made a pact to marry each other if neither one of them are in a serious relationship by the time they hit thirty.

It sounds like fun and games but as the years to thirty tick past and lovers come and go out of their lives, the pact becomes larger than life.
Sex is inevitable. Friendships are tested. Hearts are on the line.

The pact is about to change everything.

What a sweet love story! Perfect for Valentine’s Day.

“I’d give up everything for you.” ❤ Swoon!!! Linden is Book Boyfriend material for sure! Who doesn’t want a man to say this to them?  Swoon.  Be still my fluttering heart – or maybe its aFib.

James, Steph, and Linden are friends. They have been friends for a while. James and Steph even dated for a heartbeat. But that ended and now they are just friends.

Linden always had his eyes on Steph. She was perfection in his eyes. So he comes up with a pact if they aren’t in a serious relationship by the time they are 30, Steph and he will get married. Win-win right? Time goes by, Steph is trying on different guys and Linden is trying out different girls. One weekend, they all converge on a cabin and from there Steph and Linden are free falling. James can get over the fact that he loves Steph and that Linden always GETS everything he wants. James plays the pity me card and destroys Linden and Steph out of selfishness.

What about the pact? What about the time apart? Does it make the heart grow fonder? Or will the distance push them further apart?

This is a great romantic story. It has its ups and downs. The characters are totally relatable. James out of the three was the most annoying and jerkish, yet was a great character. I knew what to expect from him because he was such a brooder. There were parts of the book where I was annoyed with Steph and Linden and how they were reacting to the situation at hand. Overall I liked the book, loved the HEA.

A Call to Pride by Poppy Woods

42424715Liza Moultrie has been on the run from her past for over a year, trying to make sense of the events surrounding the attack that brought her life to a screeching hault. Life in Helen, Georgia has been kind to her and the friendships she found there have made the healing process a little easier, if painstakingly slow. Unable to distinguish nightmares from memories, she turns to the two guys who stomped into her life with without warning.

Parker and Kade James have secrets of their own, and apparently they’re bad at keeping them. Helen was supposed to be one more stop on the road, one more paycheck. That was until they met their mate. Their mate. Two brothers, one seemingly human girl, and they’re both drawn to her. When Liza’s past catches up to her, can the brothers keep her safe? Can she let them in and accept her place as their mate?

With danger stalking her, literally, throughout the town she has come to think of as her refuge, Liza has only one choice: Trust them.

A Call To Pride is a paranormal menage romance. Steamy shifters make this story unacceptable for anyone under the age of eighteen. Because the characters in this universe have a story to tell, and the author has little control over that, some uncomfortable topics may be touched on such as sexual assault, abuse, and death.

Healing from the past, Liza tries to bury the past in Helen, Georgia.  She has a new life, new friends, new job, all that jazz.  She also has nightmares about the past and what happened to her.  Liza can’t outgrow or overcome it.   Then she meets Kade and Parker.  Two enigmas.  Yet she is drawn to them and doesn’t understand why.  When her past comes back to haunt her, she tries to run, but Kade and Parker won’t let her.  They are claiming her as their own.  Her attacker lays claim on her too.  The scar he left on her body proclaims his claim on her too.  Yet, it didn’t have the desired effect.  When her true nature comes through with the brother’s still care about her?  Or will they run off too??

Parker is the Alpha, Kade should be the Alpha but he has no people skills, his animal is too dominant.  When they catch Liza, they know who she is to them.  Mate.  They carefully pursue her, letting her always make the first move.  They protect her, they keep her safe, and they love her.  When push comes to shove, with the brother’s be able to share her?

I liked this story.  I liked how Liza needed to figure out what she is.  But, when she figured out what she is, I sighed.  I wanted so much more for her.  I did like the brothers and how different they are.  Yet how they both loved Liza.  The story was fast-paced and filled with sexy scenes.

Yes, this is a cliff hanger, but not in a bad way.  Liza isn’t kidnapped, we know she is safe, but what we don’t know……yeah, you’ll have to read it to find out.   I will be reading book #2 in this series.

This was a good first book to the series – Sanctuary, Texas.

Bailey is on the run from her abusive Ex. While running from the last mess, she stumbles upon Erick, a vampire. He assures her that he will protect her and keep her safe, even offers up a place for her to stay at the end of the journey- which she agrees too. A prophecy indicates that she is where she needs to be and that she too is a Protector. Which can’t be right, because she isn’t a vampire. How different her life could be in Sanctuary if only her ex would go away. Yet, Bailey knows she can’t stay long for fear of putting all these people in harm’s way. Her only option is to leave before her ex finds her. But what about Erick? She’s grown very close to him. To protect him, she needs to go.

Erick has been looking for Bailey. She is key to their survival. She can help protect them, if only she was a vampire like him. But he will not force her. He will not even force her to talk about her past until she is ready too. Yet, he is drawn to her. He is consumed by her. Bailey is everything he has ever dreamed off. She is his equal in so many ways. Yet he can not bring himself to turn her unless she agrees to it. Can this work out with Bailey? Can they help Sanctuary? When push comes to shove, will Erick be able to save Bailey?

This is a quick read, that puts you right in the heart of what is going on. You meet an entire cast of amazing beings that help build the story. I felt heartache, pain, suffering, love, respect, loyalty, I felt it all in this book!!  I do love my paranormal reads and things that go bump in the night.  This book reminded me of how good those books can be.

I was not expecting this to happen at all. Yeah, I read the blurb, but still….shocked!! It was a quick story, that kept my interest. Could I have done what Demi did? Nope. Sorry bestie. I would have tried, but when the woman touched me, I’d have been out and the creepiness to the mom – OMG! NOPE.
