Book Review – Vampire Mate

46028099. sy475 Warrior. Vampire. Soulmate?

The first book in the smoking hot vampire warrior series by L.J. Red.
In the supernatural underworld of Chicago, vampire warrior Lucian has met his match.

Brutally dangerous and scorchingly sexy, Lucian is the leader of the Shadows, elite vampire warriors caught in a deadly battle against the wild and power-hungry vampires who want to rain terror on humankind.

Lucian doesn’t believe in soulmates but from the moment he meets Dana, all he wants is to possess her completely. His iron control is beginning to fray and when it snaps, there’s nothing in the world that will stop him from taking her.

Dana’s a cop on the trail of a blood-crazed vampire tearing through Chicago. She doesn’t want anything to do with vampire politics but when she overhears a plot to kill the leader of the Shadows, she knows she has no choice but to warn him.

Braving the dark, seductive world of the vampire elite, she’s helpless to resist the powerful bond she feels the moment she meets Lucian.

Can they catch the killer before the fire raging between them burns the city down?

Dark themes and steamy, sensual scenes. These alpha male vampires are vicious, brutal warriors who will stop at nothing to protect their fated mates.

** Disclaimer – I love a good vampire book.  Such as the Black Dagger Brotherhood – amazing series, you should check it out.  **

I liked it, but yet it didn’t hold my interest the entire time. I started to skim after 50%. It wasn’t hard to figure out who the Monster of Chicago was. I say let the vamps run Chicago – maybe they can clean it up better than humans.

Dana is a cop, she gets the drop on some vampire activity and needs to let the vamps know. Only the vamps and humans don’t get along, unless the vamps are using the human’s for blood. Sneaking in she looks for the Shadow who is going to get whacked. Once she relays the message, she follows the guy who took it and realizes that he’s the Shadow. From there they go on a quest to find the Monster, save the vamps, and win over Chicago.

I wasn’t impressed with Lucian or Dana. Lucian fell flat for me as a vamp. He was moody, he hand fangs, and he drank blood. But there was nothing about him that made me what him to bite me and be his soulmate. Neal on the other hand. I can’t wait to read his story and he only had a small blurb in this story!!

Dana is your stereo typical cop. Lives at the station, has no friends but the people she works with. Always working. I’ve seen and read enough of these characters. Even her bond to Lucian seemed odd to me. Usually when there is a bond, the further away they get they hurt more and more. Dana hurt, but she was so focused on her case that her pain was secondary. To me that should have been the forefront of her problems.

Book Review – Nectar by DD Price

38894032Kyla Spencer refuses to feel. Feelings are messy; they’re painful; they hold you back. Due to a painful past and secrets she wants to stay buried she keeps everyone at arm’s length. But then when she is abducted and presented as a gift to Tristan, a bored vampire prince who is destined to become a king, she has to face a few facts. Beyond facing that vampires are real Kyla has to face emotions that Tristan won’t let her run from.

Tristan is a vampire with a ravenous but insatiable appetite. For ten years he hasn’t once had his hunger sated. He feeds constantly, looking for satisfaction, and because his favourite way to feed is to feed during sex he goes through a lot of women. But then Kyla is brought to him as a gift to celebrate a promotion and from the second their eyes lock he knows there’s something different about her. After he gets a taste of Kyla neither of them will ever be the same.

“Between the taste of you, the taste of your blood, and the way you look at me, I haven’t felt this… alive… in… maybe ever.”

Books 2 & 3 avaiable.

Trigger warnings: Explicit sex scenes. Copious amounts of blood. Some dubious consent, an ending that could be troubling to those who are squeamish about blood. If you don’t love vampire alpha males who are also sweet and swoony nymphomaniacs, maybe you should give this one a miss…

ok, let me take a breath and get myself together.

Kyla is a tough cookie, she’s been through a lot and trusts no one. Not even herself. She is kidnapped and taken to a vampire house – a sexy vampire who can’t control her. She doesn’t trust him either. Kyla is part of a big vicious circle. His kisses, his fingers, and just himself try to break through to her. But the instinct to run, to survive is strong in Kyla. When she runs it doesn’t end well. Trust is broken between them. Can she earn it back? And can they figure out what this push/pull relationship is all about?

Tristan is Vampire Royalty – only he’s off his game with Kyla around. Her blood is like a vamp drug and he can’t get enough.  She is the nectar and he is the bee.  Tristan is the opposite of calm, cool, & collected. He is ravenous, high, and demanding when he drinks Kyla’s blood. He isn’t going to let her go, but he can’t put her in a trance either, so there needs to be a balance. Only she is making it hard for him at every turn. No one else can have her, she is his and his alone. When will she understand that? Can’t she feel his love for her? Slowly Tristan breaks down her walls and immerses himself into her life. But for how long?

This book starts off hard and just keeps going. I will admit I did get tired of Kyla’s shit after a while. She is untrusting and unloving. The last 25% of the I was hooked on every word, watching how this all played out. Could they be together? Was Joe going to do something stupid? what about Tristan or Kyla herself? Who can be trusted and who is just playing a game?

This is a cliffhanger! UGH. Kick me in the gut why don’t you?! But I will be reading book #2 in this series. Hoping and praying for the best.

Note to DD Price, I’d love to see Sam get his own book. I love him. 🙂

This was a good first book to the series – Sanctuary, Texas.

Bailey is on the run from her abusive Ex. While running from the last mess, she stumbles upon Erick, a vampire. He assures her that he will protect her and keep her safe, even offers up a place for her to stay at the end of the journey- which she agrees too. A prophecy indicates that she is where she needs to be and that she too is a Protector. Which can’t be right, because she isn’t a vampire. How different her life could be in Sanctuary if only her ex would go away. Yet, Bailey knows she can’t stay long for fear of putting all these people in harm’s way. Her only option is to leave before her ex finds her. But what about Erick? She’s grown very close to him. To protect him, she needs to go.

Erick has been looking for Bailey. She is key to their survival. She can help protect them, if only she was a vampire like him. But he will not force her. He will not even force her to talk about her past until she is ready too. Yet, he is drawn to her. He is consumed by her. Bailey is everything he has ever dreamed off. She is his equal in so many ways. Yet he can not bring himself to turn her unless she agrees to it. Can this work out with Bailey? Can they help Sanctuary? When push comes to shove, will Erick be able to save Bailey?

This is a quick read, that puts you right in the heart of what is going on. You meet an entire cast of amazing beings that help build the story. I felt heartache, pain, suffering, love, respect, loyalty, I felt it all in this book!!  I do love my paranormal reads and things that go bump in the night.  This book reminded me of how good those books can be.
